In the Christian world many look forward to the festive season to be with loved ones, family, friends, cobber digger mates. For those not of the Christian faith, I wish you well because you too are part of the human race and all faiths have their paths to God whoever he maybe and in whatever form he decides. It is not for us mere mortals to question his existence but rather be thankful we have the same desire to live a good life free from the illness and diseases of life.
To my Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Sikh and many others of different faiths let us enjoy the coming days for we are all mortal. We all have different lives and different journeys in life, let us not confuse faith with being happy and contented.
I even forgive that bastard who sent me stupid, threatening and derogatory remarks by mobile texts today. I even forgive those renegades recalcitrants (they know who they are) who are so bitter and twisted towards me that they cannot see that their hatred and malice is turning people away. To those whom I have upset, I apologise profusely and wish you all well. Remember that as much as I try to be a good person, the drivers of envy, jealousy and hatred only brings out my dark side that is not conducive to longevity or good will to others. Let the hatreds of the past remain in the past and move on.
I wish to thank my lovely wife Yovanna for all her hard work, for standing by during the last twelve difficult months where we did not know what the future held for us. She is one special lady. I can honestly say that she has been an inspiration and the encourager in my latter years after a life time of battling forces that were at times overwhelming. A special mention to my four boys and three girls for being with us. David, Paul, Matthew, Jane, Mark, Josephine and little Anika.
To my parents who are still with us, my brothers and sister and their families, Uncles, Aunties, Cousins and their families. I thank those people who left us recently, Aunt Aliki in Pellana (Greece), Uncle Peter in Toronto (Canada) and Auntie Marika Brunswick (Australia). I am sorry they are not with us but they are at peace waiting patiently until it is our turn join them.
To my many military mates, you are all very special to me, no matter what your rank was whilst we served, you are very special people. To my closest friends scattered throughout the world (you all know who you are) I thank you for your friendship and helping me grow and develop as a person. I may be 66 years old, I am not ashamed to express how I feel.
For those outside my circle of family, relatives and friends I wish you well. My wife and I are rich in friends but not in a material sense, so dont get fooled by the splendour of how my wife has made this and every other Christmas special. I am truly blessed by her presence. This time last year, it was touch and go but for my faith in God, skill of the doctors, the prayers of my family, friends and positive attitude I would not be here today.
STAY STRONG, NEVER GIVE UP, HAVE THE COURAGE OF YOUR CONVICTIONS AND FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT. IT’S THE AUSTRALIAN WAY.
