Down to earth Aussies

Abalinx 30 January 2016 Peter Adamis

Vi and Kevin Hurley, long-time friends known for their quiet philanthropic work behind the scenes.  Typical Aussies’ who have worked hard all their lives.  Raised three kids (lost one to illness).  Supported the Australian way of life, embracing New Australians along the way.   In their early life both were wild Australian Rockers who loved life. They followed Aussie football with a passion, and supported numerous local organisations and institutions. Just two beautiful people who went about life without being pretentious and calling a spade a spade. Not afraid to stand up and fight the good fight, getting back up after being beaten (metaphorically speaking) and having another go. Two ordinary average Aussies’ who I would classify as my cobber digger mates. Such lovely people that I wish they live forever. I write this because we share the same values, ethics and love for this nation we call home. We met through political introductions many years ago and became friends of the family.

Only one other Australian that I know would fit the bill in this category and that is Sandra Mercer Moore. This lady is so very special to me for she stuck by me at a time when I as literally paralysed from a car accident overseas. Last year I lost a dear friend in Mabs Thrup, another true Aussie lass who in my opinion was a battler through and through.

I have many other cobbers who are in the same category as cobber digger mates, but reasons other than what I have written above. I am on safe ground when I say that although in life we support and help others without expecting an acknowledgement; yet we fall into the trap of placing them on a pedestal.

Still not one of my cobber digger mates have ever let me down and vice versa.  Australians are a rare breed found nowhere else in the world. Loyal, general, passionate about Aussie without all the fanfare that other peoples’ tend to demonstrate.  Those who have travelled throughout Australia know full well that what I have written to be true. Stay strong, be true to values we have, expect the unexpected, never have fear as your companion and don’t be afraid to reach for the sky and live life as it should be. This post is dedicated to all my COBBER DIGGER MATES. (They all know who they are).
