As an Australian of Greek heritage, traditions and culture, I was raised to have a hatred against the Turks for their bestiality, their extermination of Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians. I was advised that the Turks were responsible for massacres, abduction of children and raising them as soldiers of Islam. A copy of the article may be downloaded by clicking on: MANKIND’S BAGGAGE
Turks keeping the Greeks under the yoke and classified as second class citizens. Yes, I was brought up to hate the Turks for many reasons. As I grew and developed, I made my own mind up. I met many Turks during my life time, many of them were decent people with the odd apple amongst them, but even then they were far and few between. I made in a goal of mine to learn as much as I could about the atrocities, the genocide, and extermination of non-Muslim population of Asia Minor (Turkey). The literature was in the public domain and yes they were all true.
I had heard references to Australian atrocities against its aboriginal population and found it hard to believe until I began to read more and more about the massacres of the aboriginal in Australia. There was a Greek trooper who had been hired in Queensland as part of the Police Trackers responsible for hunting down alleged recalcitrant aboriginals. He however resigned from the force after being witnesses to unspeakable horrors being conducted by his superior and the evidence being hushed up. The aboriginals in Tasmania were wiped out and yet we remain oblivious to such matters. Why is a question I don’t have answers to and yet I am appalled by the treatment meted out to our Aboriginal brothers, a treatment leaves a lot to be desired.
Then we as youngsters grew up hearing about the holocaust, the genocide against those of the Jewish faith. Some seventy years later people are beginning to deny that it ever happened. What a joke on humanity I must say. Eisenhower was correct when he said that he wanted evidence and plenty of visual evidence so that future generations could not deny that such a horrible episode in man’s history could go hidden from humanity. Eisenhower knew that the day would come one day when all of the evidence would be questioned and people would not only forget but deny that it ever happened. Look around our environment and see it unfolding in front of our eyes. Yes the nazis and their accomplices have much still to answer for. Many would never be prosecuted by the Western nations for reasons only known to them.
The Japanese in their conquests of Asia are not far behind in the cruelty and barbaric practices that evolved around an ancient Samurai Bushido code of conduct. A code that was filled with bestiality, and all types of cruelty. Yet here amongst my own military brethren of ex members, I have been advised to forgive and forget and let matters slide as the Japanese are now our allies. A bit rich if you ask me.
Tell that to the sons, daughters, grandchildren and maybe to the few who are still alive who suffered or whose parents and grandparents suffered at the hands of the Japanese. Then we have the numerous atrocities against the Chinese population. A people so numerous that murder was conducted on a grand scale. A scale that we who live today will never know the truth because most of the evidence has been erased from history and no one would believe it anyway.
But then again, we must look too far and see that the Chinese post WW2 massacred and exterminated millions of its own people. Mao Tse Tung was no people’s hero. He may have had some credentials in consolidating his followers but the truth be told, it was not the communists that resisted the Japanese the invader it was the nationalists. A pity that its own people do not learn the truth. Thank God we live in a country where we are free from oppression and the freedom to make life whatever we decide is best for us. No wonder other people are trying to come tour shores. The Indonesians are to be spared the spotlight for they too are credited with an inglorious past having massacred their Chinese inhabitants of almost half a million people. We read about the bodies floating down the rivers and out to the sea. The only winners were the ocean fish which we in turn have it turned up in the food chain.
Russia on the other hand on the ascension of Stalin took the prize for extermination, murdering millions of his own people and those who had lesser crimes like disagreeing with him and his policies ended up in the Gulags that dotted Siberia. My own wife’s uncles were part of those who perished in the Gulags, Their existence on the earth gone forever. Who would mourn for them? Yes Stalin was responsible for so many murders that it is a wonder that the West did not go to war against him. But WW2 came around it saved Stalin from being toppled. What a joke on mankind. The west stood aside as thousands upon thousands of White Russians and/or those who fought against Stalin during WW2 and were part of the Nazi war machine also were loleft by the great powers to perish under the communist hammer and sickle. Not one survived.
In my life time, I have been around to hear and read about the massacres in the Congo during the sixties when they gained independence after years of their people being almost wiped out by the Belgian King Leopold who has been credited with the murder of millions of Africans. The Rwanda massacre and the battles between two rival groups. The Cambodian massacres where a people were almost exterminated and its elite wiped out. The murders being committed on a daily basis of white farmers in South Africa. Zimbabwe is not innocent and believe you me the massacres continue unabated.
What ever happened to the agreements made at the time of the hand/overtake over when the rule of law and government changed hands. It’s all gone up in smoke. Wait and see what is going to happen to those poor white farmers in the South Africa. We will either see another Civil war or a huge migration of whites to other parts of the world. Will the world sit on the fence and do nothing and if they do then the United Nations like its predecessor the League of Nations is nothing but a paper tiger.
I have only just scratched the surface of mankind’s ability to wreck have against their fellow man. Honestly, such barbaric behaviour belongs to a past that I thought was long gone. For example those who lived through WW1 thought that after so many deaths it was to be a war to end all wars.
What joke on humanity was it not? WW2 was just as terrible with the end almost destroying mankind itself. Having said this about the two great wars, I fear greatly the next one. I say this because of the new technologies that are being created on a daily basis. Technology that will see the extinction of mankind and a new race of machines rise to take our place. I kid you not. The next Great War will be the end of mankind as we know it.
Machines, robots, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, drones are but a fraction of the emerging technologies that are being pursued as we speak and we being the little man in the street are helpless against such new technologies. We may if we are lucky be spared and become carbon maintenance workers kept alive to service the machines that we once designed. Mankind will take eons to learn from the machines they created and take precautionary measures to survive. During those dark ages, the lack of history and information will slowly be unearthed and mankind will relearn its ancient past. Fear yet again that when that time comes, life may not be worth living.
Therefore what is the answer to such a horrible existence? What did our ancestors do when faced with extinction? They moved and migrated to other parts of the world and started anew. So what will mankind do in this case? Ahhh yes, we travel to other planets and colonise them. Emulating our ancestors who moved and evolved by moving, migrating, following the herds, the grasslands and onto new pastures in order to survive. I guess that is what we too will do in some distant future to escape the ravages of an earth that is no longer mastered by mankind.
Vigilance is not something to be laughed and we in Australia need to be aware that if we are not careful and become complacent, happy in our little comfort zone that we will not be affected by the world around us. Oh yes we are safe are we not. We are an island. We have allies that will support us, we have a superbly trained Defence Force and the people united behind us. A stable democratic government, a national security organisation designed to look after our interests that will look after have we not? All of this is nothing but hogwash if the people are not united or have an alternative form of people’s power to call upon in an event of an emergency, an emergency that can become alight given the many triggers that we are currently surrounded with.
I will write more about this in another article. An article that will discuss the pros and cons of whether we need a Citizens Reserve force for all men and women that can be called upon in the event if such an emergency. I am not talking about a Reserve Force or another Militia but rather a citizen’s force that is trained and managed by competent leaders as a support to the Regular and reserve forces already in place.
