Dear Prime Minister and your Victorian supporters,

This is not an easy letter to write but then again how else are you going to understand the grassroots angst at our level.  First of all let me preface it by saying that as a youngster growing up in Windsor, St Kilda and Prahran, in Melbourne Victoria, we were taught never to be afraid, to stand up for ourselves, fight the good fight, stand up for the battlers, never let a mate down and above never kick a bloke when he is down. Over the years I learnt exactly what they all meant and I was guided by better men and women than I in following those simple but effective rational paradigms. As a young man, I was full of beans and at times life appeared insurmountable to say the least. I read your life story and compared it to mine and I must say I congratulate you on your grit and determination to succeed where others have failed.

You entered the corporate world and did well, while I on the other hand wore the uniform of Australia and did my bit. On reflection one could rightly say that we both have contributed to the well being and welfare of this country we call home. But with one exception! I don’t have what it takes to undertake the journey that you have undertaken but would have sought other means of achieving the same goals.  Your journey unfortunately has unleashed forces that you cannot imagine and you may well go down in history as creating an unwarranted political civil war with in the broad church of the Liberal Party.

The messages that you have sent to the younger generation has sent shock waves through their ranks, upset the traditional and long time voters who are aware that such matters of leadership could have been handled otherwise and in a far more amicable manner. We the public and more so as Liberals can only make informed assumptions based on the myriad of mass media outlets all vying to capture our attention. Since your decision to kick a bloke like Tony Abbott (Your Prime Minister as well as mine) down I have observed and noted the misinformation that surrounds this ungodly mess that you have created. The plotting and the plotters have not thought it out as the decision was made to topple the Prime Minister some six months ago. You know it and the Australian people know it.

I ask you now, where does that leave us, the Australian people. Are we being left in the lurch and that all the credits due to Tony Abbott the former Prime Minister will be for naught or do we see you in the top spot taking credit for something that is not duly yours. You captured the essence of Ministers who did not have the courage nor the intestinal fortitude to confront the then Prime Minister Tony Abbott, but that you sent them like the hounds that they, to nip at his heels, undermine him, leak to the press and failed in their ministries. Yes two of those are from Victoria, the same two who should have known better and are considered failures even amongst their peers and colleagues. I will not pity them when their time comes but I shall endeavour to sit quietly by the sidelines, not saying a word and look at them as they cross my path. Yes I am on record at having being responsible for electing them, but never in my wildest dreams did I expect such savage treachery from these two recalcitrant sycophants.  Are these the type of ministers you want at your side? I think not!

Mr Turnbull, as our Prime Minister you have much to make amends for and I wish you well. Just remember that this is never about you. Don’t be condescending or arrogant. Remember that you are but a private citizen thrust into the political limelight and that your candle remains lit only until someone comes along and blows it out. After all you are but a servant of the Australian people and if you can always remember that you will do just fine.
